PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a 4-year-old girl has died after drowning in a swimming pool.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard says emergency responders were called around 11 p.m. Tuesday to a residence in the area of 43rd Place and Union Hills Drive.

According to investigators, there was a family party taking place at the home and no adults were aware that the girl had gone outside and into the pool area.

As some guests were preparing to leave, they found the child in the pool.

Firefighters transported the girl to the hospital where she died.

It is still unclear how long the child was under water.

The investigation is ongoing.

The girl’s identity is being withheld pending notification of extended family.
