WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - Elmore County officials say they’re investigating the death of a woman who was found unresponsive in a jail cell.

Sheriff Bill Franklin tells the Montgomery Advertiser (https://on.mgmadv.com/29fi8kO ) 39-year-old Dianna Marie Layne of Pell City was found unresponsive in her cell at the Elmore County jail Wednesday morning.

Authorities say she was in a cell by herself and authorities found her unresponsive when they asked if she was going to eat her breakfast.

Franklin says Layne’s body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

The sheriff says Poarch Creek Tribal Police brought Layne to the jail Friday evening after arresting her at the Wind Creek Casino. Franklin says she was accused of possession of a controlled substance.
