DENVER (AP) - Officials say they have been unable to determine the cause of death of an inmate at the Jefferson County jail through an autopsy.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/2970ZZH ) 53-year-old Patrick O’Day was pronounced dead early Tuesday. The county coroner’s office performed an autopsy but couldn’t determine a cause of death.

The coroner is awaiting toxicology results.

O’Day had been jailed Monday for failing to appear in court on a domestic violence charge.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Mark Techmeyer says O’Day was taken into custody in a wheelchair for a leg injury, but he didn’t complain of any life-threatening symptoms.

He says deputies checked on him while he slept that night and discovered he wasn’t breathing at 1:30 a.m.

Paramedics attempted CPR, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 2 a.m.
