LONGVILLE, La. (AP) - A Beauregard Parish sheriff’s deputy became a hero in the eyes of two children from Longville when he surprised them with new bicycles to replace their stolen ones.

Travis Thompson tells the American Press (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) he decided to replace the bicycles after seeing the look of defeat in 4-year-old Elijah Petty’s eyes as he took the report of the theft June 19.

On June 22, Thompson checked in with the Petty family to see if there had been any news of their bicycles. When the children told him they hadn’t had any luck and that their 2-year-old brother’s bike had also been taken, Thompson pulled the new bicycles out of his patrol unit.

The children’s mother, Ashley Petty, said the surprise visit from Thompson boosted her children’s spirits after such a sad day.
