BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Montana authorities say the body of a man was found burned beyond recognition inside a vehicle in Stillwater County.

Stillwater County sheriff’s officials said Wednesday they believe the man is 58-year-old Lee Bowman Jr. of Reed Point, though dental records were not available to confirm the identification.

Montana State Trooper Todd Hagenbuch told the Billings Gazette (https://bit.ly/296e3OW ) the burned vehicle was found Tuesday evening about five miles north of Reed Point.

He says the 1987 Chevrolet El Camino appeared to have gone off the road and gotten stuck, and at some point a fire began in the vehicle or the grass outside.

There were no witnesses. It was unclear how long the burned vehicle and body had been there.

Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that an autopsy found no indication a crime was committed.
