LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock police say an 8-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a driver who fled the scene but later turned himself in.

Lt. Steve McClanahan tells TV station KATV (https://bit.ly/291lp5l ) the incident happened around 8:30 Tuesday night. He says the boy was skateboarding when he was struck by a Chevrolet Impala.

McClanahan says the car continued on a short distance before coming to a stop. He says the driver and a passenger got out, looked at the child, then returned to the car and pulled away.

Police later tweeted that the driver had turned himself in and the car was recovered. No further details were given.

The child wasn’t immediately identified.
