NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - A caretaker convicted of theft in central Iowa has been given five years of probation and ordered to pay restitution.

The Newton Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/294CdKi ) that Renee Goeldner, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, on Monday also was given a 15-year suspended prison sentence. The judge told her to pay nearly $47,000 in restitution.

Goeldner had pleaded guilty to theft and abuse of a dependent adult. Authorities say she took the money from the 77-year-old Newton victim between Jan. 13, 2014 and April 6, 2015.
