DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit filed against the Keokuk school district by a former student alleging her track coach sexually abused her for two years beginning at age 16.

The court on Wednesday upheld a lower court’s dismissal saying the woman waited too long to sue.

The woman argues a 2013 state law should be broadened to apply to her. That law says a child victim of sexual abuse has four years from the time abuse is discovered to sue. A child is defined as anyone under age 14.

Attorney Roxanne Conlin argued for the woman many Iowa laws consider individuals children until age 18, but the court said it cannot overturn the Iowa Supreme Court’s previous rulings upholding the age 14 cutoff.
