NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Newark Police say an officer foiled a robbery in progress and helped in the arrest of one of the two suspects.

The department said in a news release that Cpl. Brandon Walker was on patrol late Tuesday when he saw three men apparently fighting in a parking lot at Papa John’s on East Main Street. Police say Walker approached the group, and two of the men fled in opposite directions.

Officers say Walker learned that the men had tried to rob the third man, who is a delivery driver for Papa John’s. Authorities say the robbers pointed a handgun at the driver and demanded property from him. The robber beat and choked the victim.

The department says Walker quickly apprehended one suspect; the second remains at large.
