OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the man who Ottumwa officers say they shot after he pointed a rifle at them.

An Ottumwa Police Department news release Tuesday identified the man as 60-year-old Michael Heady Sr. The officers who shot him were identified as Sgt. Noah Aljets, a 12-year veteran of the force, and Officer Derek Shaw, who’s been on the force for nine years.

Police received a call about a house fire just before 9 a.m. Saturday. The caller also said a man was outside shooting a rifle into the burning home.

Heady came out the home’s front door after officers arrived. Police say the officers fired when he raised the rifle and pointed it at them.

Heady was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.
