JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Plans are in the works to redevelop the Hayes Hotel building in Jackson as part of a broader effort to revitalize the city’s downtown.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/293icCM ) city officials say developer Home Renewal Systems LLC plans to invest nearly $25 million in construction and rehabilitation work at the vacant building. An agreement with the company was approved on Tuesday.

City Manager Patrick Burtch says plans call for a mix of residential housing and hotel rooms at the building as well as office, restaurant and retail space.

John Burtka, owner of Grand River Brewery and Cherry Creek Winery, recently announced plans for two development projects in downtown Jackson.
