HARRINGTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested a wanted man who tried to climb out of his Harrington home’s window to escape custody.

Harrington police say they responded to a home Sunday after receiving a tip that the resident inside was wanted.

When officers arrived at the home and knocked on the door, police say they saw 46-year-old Merlin L. Smith try to escape out a first-floor window and were able to take him into custody after a short struggle.

Harrington police charged Smith with criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order, while Delaware State Police charged him with failure to register as a sex offender within three days of changing address.

It is unclear whether Smith has an attorney.
