SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - It’s the end of an era for the 137-year-old San Bernardino Fire Department due to the city’s bankruptcy.

The San Bernardino County Fire District will take over fire, rescue and emergency medical services starting July 1 as part of the city’s recovery plan.

The Sun newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/290kpO0 ) the process of replacing city fire labels on fire trucks with county labels began last week.

Personnel switches will take place on July 3. That includes the San Bernardino city fire chief, who will become a county engine company captain.

Technical changes such as reconfiguring communications have been underway for months.
