PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (AP) - The University of Maine System has appointed a new interim president for the system’s campus in Presque Isle.

Longtime faculty member Raymond Rice will serve as interim president. He will continue to serve in his current position as provost at the university.

Rice’s appointment comes in the wake of system chancellor James Page visiting the campus to discuss a new leadership strategy. Page’s arrival followed the news that president Linda Schott has accepted an offer to serve as the president of Southern Oregon University.

Rice will be paid $140,000. His appointment starts in the middle of July and he has been appointed for one year as interim president.

University of Maine at Presque Isle has about 1,600 students.
