BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore Police say a man accidentally shot himself when the youth he was trying to rob at gunpoint fought back and got the weapon from him.

Department spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference that incident occurred Friday afternoon outside Frederick Douglass High School in west Baltimore. Police say the 17-year-old victim, a senior at the school, was on his way to pick up his cap and gown for graduation on Sunday.

Smith says the suspect put a gun in the student’s back, and the student and the robber fought. Police say the suspect shot himself, the student got the gun, and the suspect ran away.

Police released surveillance video that showed the suspect, who, Smith said, is probably seeking medical attention in or near the city.
