BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Vermont say they have a man in custody in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Burlington.

Burlington police say 44-year-old James Bristol of Burlington was taken into custody minutes after the attempted robbery at the Citizens Bank on College Street at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Authorities say Bristol said he had a gun, but no weapon was displayed or found during the investigation.

Bristol is being held at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
