UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an 86-year-old woman has died and five others have been injured in an auto accident in the Town of Vernon.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Department says Mary Zabele of Vernon was a backseat passenger in a sport utility vehicle driven by her grandson, 34-year-old Kristopher Skinner of Rome, when it was struck by a car around 10 a.m. Friday. Zabele later died at a hospital.

Skinner and his mother, 57-year-old Debra Skinner, were taken to a hospital.

The other driver, 23-year-old Amber Muir of Sherrill, and her two children, 2-year-old Caitlyn Hall and 3-year-old Nathen Hall, also were taken to the hospital.

Authorities say the five injured people are considered stable and in fair condition.

Muir has received a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign.
