FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - A teenager died a day after being struck by a car while walking to his school bus stop in southwest Florida.

Attorney Brian Vigness says 16-year-old Cameron Mayhew died Thursday afternoon at a Fort Myers hospital. He is representing the teen’s mother, Sherry Stevens.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Mayhew was crossing a road Wednesday morning when a car driven by 23-year-old Zackery Treinen passed a school bus that was stopped and had an extended stop sign deployed.

Vigness tells the News-Press (https://newspr.es/1Y6uEX0 ) the Fort Myers High School sophomore had signed up to be an organ donor when he got his driver’s permit.
