JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) - Police in Janesville are hoping home visits with known gang members will help reduce crime in the city.

Two special police units and patrol officers paid a visit to 103 homes of gang members over the past few weeks.

The State Journal (https://bit.ly/1ZjRkBu ) reports the police department’s gang abatement team and street crimes unit worked with the state Department of Corrections on the initiative.

The law enforcement visits are aimed at developing leads on possible planned violence between rival gangs and getting information on colors, tattoos and other signs of affiliation - whether they are street gangs or organized outlaw motorcycle groups.
