HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a western Maryland man killed a woman who had threatened to turn him in for two robberies.

Police said in a statement Friday that first-degree murder has been added to the robbery charges against 26-year-old Anthony Minnick of Smithsburg.

Police say Minnick shot 55-year-old Sonya Smith, the girlfriend of an acquaintance, at her home on Tuesday. Troopers found her body Thursday after family members said they hadn’t heard from her for two days.

Smith was charged Wednesday with robbing a store near Smith’s house and a gas station in nearby Hagerstown.

No defense attorney is listed in online court records in the murder case. The public defender representing Minnick on robbery charges didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
