WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - A nurse is suing a central Pennsylvania hospital saying she was wrongly removed from the OB/GYN department and out of work for about eight months because she wouldn’t get a vaccine because of her religious beliefs.

The federal lawsuit filed against Mount Nittany Medical Center doesn’t specify Rebecca Smith’s religion or how it relates to the vaccination for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.

The Centre Daily Times (https://bit.ly/1UAomvY ) reports Smith was hired in 2011 and that the vaccination wasn’t an issue until she returned from family leave after giving birth to a child last year. That’s when Smith claims she was told the vaccination was mandatory.

When she refused, she was removed from the OB/GYN unit and not given another assignment until February.

A hospital spokeswoman declined comment on the lawsuit.
