SPRING CREEK, Nev. (AP) - A 38-year-old Elko County man who was arrested for domestic battery two years ago has been booked on suspicion of open murder in the fatal shooting of his wife.

Acting Elko County Undersheriff Kevin McKinney said Donald Fleming was administering CPR to Kristin Fleming when deputies responded to their home in Spring Creek at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

McKinney told the Elko Daily Free Press (https://tinyurl.com/hhf5b2w) she had been shot in the face with a small-caliber handgun in what appeared to be a “domestic violence situation.” She was pronounced dead at about 1 a.m.

McKinney said alcohol may have played a role in the shooting and investigators are treating it as a homicide.

Donald Fleming was being held Friday without bail in the Elko County Jail. It wasn’t clear if he has an attorney.
