LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A suspect has been arrested in the 1998 stabbing death of a doughnut shop owner in Lake Charles.

Media outlets report Lake Charles Police announced Wednesday that 35-year-old Dennis Jerome Bartie was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 45-year-old Rose Born.

Police say Born was found inside her business, Paradise Donuts, in July 1998. She had been stabbed repeatedly, and there was evidence of a violence struggle. At the time, police had no suspects and the case went cold.

However, officials say last fall a new team of investigators, along with advanced DNA technology, helped develop Bartie as a suspect. He was 17 at the time of the attack.

Bartie, who was also charged with armed robbery, is currently serving time in jail on unrelated charges.
