FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - More than 1,000 feet of a Florence street is going to be transformed into a giant water slide for one day.

Media outlets report Slide the City is bringing a unique slip-and-slide experience Saturday to Poplar Street.

Slide the City owner Spencer Hunn says he scouts cities that would be good locations for the slide, and that the section of Poplar Street that extends south of Veterans Drive immediately drew his attention because of its steepness.

Prices vary according to whether you register ahead of time, and how many times you want to ride. Generally, they range from $15 for a double slide to $25-$35 for multiple slides. More information can be found at shoalslocal.com.

To avoid parking issues on Veterans Drive, Mayor Mickey Haddock is encouraging people to park on the off streets and walk over.
