PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona prison guard is accused of having sexual encounters with an inmate at a state prison in Buckeye.

Juan Ignacio Ramirez Jr. appeared in court Wednesday on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct and was released on bond pending a preliminary hearing next week.

According to court documents, an inmate left a message on a prison hotline saying he had sexual relations with the 26-year-old Ramirez and felt like he couldn’t tell the officer no.

In an interview this week with an investigator, Ramirez allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual contact with the inmate once in 2015 and a second time earlier this year.

An official with the state Corrections Department said Ramirez is no longer employed by the agency.
