RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina legislature has confirmed Gov. Pat McCrory’s appointments to the State Board of Education.

The Senate and House held an unusual joint session on Thursday to confirm J. Todd Chasteen of Watauga County and Amy Bannister White of Wake County. All but one of the 158 legislators voting agreed to confirm the appointments.

Chasteen is the corporate counsel for the Boone-based Christian relief agency Samaritan’s Purse which is led by the Rev. Franklin Graham. White is a former Wake County school board member who now works to improve after-school programs in several of the county’s elementary schools.

Their terms on the board run through March 2023.
