UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - The new Utica Club sign is lit above the hometown brewery in the central New York city.

A block party was held Wednesday evening to celebrate the installation and lighting of the sign, located atop a building at the F.X. Matt Brewing Co.

Company officials say the old sign that read Utica Club Pilsner on one side and Utica Club Ale on the other was more than 70 years old and hadn’t been lit in about 20 years.

The new sign reads Utica Club in 12-foot-high letters and lights up in red, green and blue in succession.

The brewery announced in April that it would replace its iconic beer sign with a new one.

The original electric sign was erected in 1914. It was replaced 25 years later by the recently removed sign.
