PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) - The Pendleton Fire Department is interested in turning the site of a former movie theater into a new station.

Chief Mike Ciraulo says the board for Goodwill Industries of the Columbia recently abandoned plans to convert the former Pendleton Cinema into a thrift store, and is willing to sell the property to the city.

He told the East Oregonian newspaper (https://is.gd/ymbsah ) that the Pendleton Cinema site will be added to a list of other potential fire station locations, including Til Taylor Park, the Pendleton Grain Growers building and the old St. Anthony Hospital site.

Pendleton Cinema closed last summer, with the owner saying the city lacks the population to support a theater.

The nearby Wildhorse Resort & Casino does have a five-screen Cineplex.
