MARICOPA, Ariz. (AP) - A man who backed a pickup truck into a home near Maricopa died after the crash ignited a fire that fully engulfed the house.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says a couple living in the house and their dogs were extricated from the backyard with minor injuries after the Wednesday night crash.

The couple became trapped by a six-foot-tall fence that was locked and difficult to climb over.

Authorities weren’t able to rescue the driver of the truck because of the intensity of the flames. The man hasn’t been identified.

The sheriff’s office says the house, a recreational vehicle and two trucks were destroyed by the fire.
