HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - It will soon be a more convenient for Daufuskie islanders to travel between their sea island and Hilton Head.

Daufuskie Island is best known to those outside South Carolina as the setting of the 1972 book “The Water Is Wide” by the late Pat Conroy.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (https://bit.ly/29sBjq8) that the Haig Point Ferry Co. is contracting with Beaufort County to provide service to island residents. The company already provides service to Haig Pint developments on the island.

The company plans additional trips and addition pickup sites on Daufuskie.

There is limited service now - two round-trips on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and one on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturday service is available only once a month and there is no Sunday service in winter.
