PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh sex offender has had three strikes and is never getting out of prison.

Sixty-three-year-old James Hamlett Jr. was sentenced to three concurrent life terms Thursday by Allegheny County Judge Jill Rangos.

Hamlett had sex crime convictions in 2007 and 1986 before he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

The girl told police that Hamlett, a friend of her mother’s, attacked her in his car after taking her to a Pittsburgh Pirates game in September.

District attorney’s spokesman Mike Manko says Hamlett is the first county sex offender to receive a life sentence for a third-strike conviction.
