WINNSBORO, S.C. (AP) - A jury has found a Chester County man guilty in the shooting death of a Chester city councilman.

Local media outlets report Christopher Moore was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison Thursday in the 2014 shooting death of Odell Williams.

Moore’s previous trial ended in April with a deadlocked jury.

Authorities say Moore shot the 69-year-old Williams in November 2014 after the councilman followed him and four other gang members because he heard they planned a robbery.

Prosecutors believe Moore intended to shoot and kill the councilman. His public defender said Moore shot Williams in self-defense, and during his testimony, Moore said he didn’t intend to kill Williams.
