KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Pennsylvania woman driving the wrong way on an interstate highway has died in a head-on crash that left a family of five from New Jersey with minor injuries.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Laura Mabery of Sayre, Pennsylvania was driving north in the southbound lane of Interstate 81 near Binghamton when her Kia collided with a southbound Mercedes SUV shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Deputies say Mabery died at a hospital. Deputies say 44-year-old Manjit Kaur of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, and his four passengers were treated for minor injuries at the hospital. They range in age from 10 to 54.

The accident happened just south of Exit 3 of I-81 in Kirkwood. Police are investigating how Mabery got on the highway in the wrong direction.
