BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police say a 16-year-old boy has been killed and a teenage girl was shot during a shooting in Birmingham.

Birmingham Police Sgt. Bryan Shelton tells Al.com (https://bit.ly/1ZmOE68 ) that Julius Kelvon was found shot and unresponsive around 2:45 a.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the girl suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. She’s currently in stable condition.

Police say several men opened fire on the victims while they were waiting for a friend on the side of the road. The shooters fled the scene before the officers arrived.

Police say they don’t know the motive behind the shooting.
