MELROSE PARK, Ill. (AP) - The family of a 16-year-old boy from suburban Chicago says he was shot in the head Friday night while sitting on his porch and is on life support at a hospital.

Dawson Stephan’s brother tells the Chicago Tribune (https://trib.in/20ZqfUU ) the teen was with two friends on the porch of their home in Melrose Park when someone in a minivan fired about a dozen shots around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Andrew Stephan says his brother is on a ventilator at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. He says he ran outside when he heard the gunfire and found his brother bleeding and lying on the ground.

Melrose Park police spokesman Daniel Sanchez said the shooting was under investigation. He had no further information.
