JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state attorney general says the former town marshal in Mathiston, Mississippi, has been arrested after he was accused of embezzlement of five city-owned firearms.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood says 38-year-old Shane Box was arrested Friday and charged on five counts of felony embezzlement by a public official.

In a news release, Hood says Box is accused of the embezzlement of five city-owned firearms. If convicted, he faces 20 years in prison or a fine of $5,000 on each count.

Box also previously served as the town’s assistant fire chief.

He was placed in Webster County Jail and his bond was set at $75,000. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
