PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Attorney General’s Office says one of the state’s most-wanted unlicensed contractors has been arrested on three felony charges.

Authorities say Keith Edward Benevento of Phoenix is accused of stealing nearly $16,000 from an elderly couple in Surprise while performing unlicensed construction work.

The AG’s Office says Benevento presented invoices to the couple in their 80s for $15,916 for home repairs that should have cost less than $4,000.

Benevento was indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury on charges of fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, and theft for work between January and April of 2011.

Benevento says the allegations against him are baseless and the result of a vindictive investigator for the Registrar of Contractors who lost a previous case against him several months ago.
