COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Columbus police say an officer exchanged gunfire with a fleeing suspect who was later caught.

Police said officers were investigating a report of two men firing shots in a neighborhood on the city’s east side early Saturday morning. When police arrived, one suspect who matched the description of the alleged gunmen ran from the area.

According to police, the fleeing suspect fired toward the officers, one of whom shot back.

No officers were hurt.

The suspect was taken into custody with an injured leg, but it’s not immediately clear how he got the injury. Police said the man was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

The shooting is under investigation.
