URBANA, Ill. (AP) - The Champaign County coroner has identified the body of a woman whose husband is accused of strangling her.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1WAjc6I ) that Coroner Duane Northrup identified the woman as 37-year-old Jessica Thomas after an autopsy Friday. He says she died of asphyxiation, a restriction of oxygen to the brain and other organs.

Shaun Thomas was charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death. He turned himself in Thursday after seeing Champaign County sheriff’s deputies searching his home.

Authorities say Thomas admitted strangling his wife May 23 in an argument over the couple’s car.

Her body was found in a storage container of their two-bedroom duplex.

Shaun Thomas is scheduled to appear in court July 5.

Online court records do not show whether he already has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
