DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A federal workplace safety report says a Des Moines postal service facility has been cited and fined nearly $120,000 for repeated safety violations that put workers in danger.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1U4RNHG ) that a December 2015 investigation by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration found the U.S. Postal Service on Forest Avenue exposed workers to risks of slips, falls and trip hazards in the carriers’ walking path.

The report says a mechanical fire door was found to be inoperable and that other emergency exit routes and doors were blocked by carts and parcels and were inaccessible. It also was cited for not educating workers on emergency action plan training.

An OSHA news release says the facility was fined $119,900.
