BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Benton County sheriff says there will be an internal investigation now that two deputies have been cleared of wrongdoing when they opened fire during a drug sting in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Rogers.

A prosecutor announced Tuesday that deputies Matt Nading and Chris Kelley were justified in opening fire after a suspect struck one of the deputies with a car. A Cave Springs police officer who was assisting deputies also opened fire and was also declared to be justified.

Sheriff Meyer Gilbert told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1t8AdZA ) that it’s routine to perform an internal investigation into whether department policy and procedure was followed during a shooting.

Gilbert said both deputes are back on duty.
