STAFFORD, Va. (AP) - Stafford County police say a 21-year-old man drowned while trying to cross the Rappahannock River.

Police say the man, identified as 21-year-old Emilio Francisco Velasco Cedillo, drowned Friday just after 6 p.m.

Police say Cedillo had been with friends at the river and became submerged while trying to swim across.

The body was retrieved by a rescue diver shortly after and Cedillo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
