ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Seattle Mariners have called up top pitching prospect Edwin Diaz from Double-A Jackson.

Diaz, a 22-year-old right-hander, joined the Mariners before their game Saturday night at Texas to provide some depth in the bullpen. Cody Martin was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

The hard-throwing Diaz was converted from starter to reliever since the season began. In 10 appearances since that switch, Diaz had 16 strikeouts while allowing one unearned run in 11 2/3 innings.

Seattle drafted Diaz in the third round of the 2012 amateur draft.
