AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Akron police say an officer could face discipline after a woman says she was left in the back of a police van for two hours.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1t6vtUk ) that 21-year-old Stacy Carritz was being taken back to Summit County Jail after a May 26 court appearance. The officer brought two other prisoners back to jail, but forgot to return for Carritz.

Carritz says she fell asleep in the van for about 20 minutes before panicking.

Police and Carritz said Thursday she was found when a police officer heard her struggling to tell someone she was inside the vehicle.

Lt. Rick Edwards says the unidentified officer could face discipline for the “human error.”

He says they’re looking at policies and procedures to prevent this from happening again.
