PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of fatally striking a pedestrian with his car.

Police say Jean Terrell Brown was driving about 35 miles over the speed limit on Friday on westbound McDowell Road and 31st Avenue when he saw a 68-year-old man crossing the intersection.

Brown slammed on his breaks but couldn’t stop in time. The pedestrian was struck and died at the hospital.

Police say Brown’s driver’s license was suspended and that he faces charges of vehicular manslaughter.

The victim hasn’t been identified.
