MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - A swarm of Africanized bees has killed two dogs and injured their owner in West Texas.

KWES-TV (https://bit.ly/1O8Hhi7 ) of Midland-Odessa reports that Susie and Sammy were stung more than 1,000 times and died at the veterinarian. Owner James Roy was stung more than 50 times while trying to save the dogs.

Bee Busters Inc. owner Tim Cleverdon says the swarm could have been caused by the Africanized bees trying to take over a colony. The company found only docile European bees in the backyard when they investigated the attack.

Experts say the Africanized bees swarm voluntarily or if they’re forced out of their colony.

Alan Roy says his father is recovering well but won’t set foot in the backyard out of fear of being stung.
