BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Fire officials say a portion of a building that houses a Birmingham church has collapsed after a blaze engulfed it.

Al.com (https://bit.ly/1X5E7OV ) reports that officials have not said what caused the fire at Covenant Church International on Saturday. Neighboring businesses were evacuated as a precaution, but it appears the fire was contained to the church.

Church musician Marius Jordan says no one was in the building when the fire started. He says the 40-member church would have been in its building for 20 years in July. He says the church owned the building.

Jordan says the church’s congregation was invited to meet at Christ Temple Deliverance Church on Avenue D in Ensley on Sunday.
