FAIRFIELD, N.J. (AP) - A New York City couple escaped injury when their small plane crashed at a New Jersey airport.

The 1985 Beech F33A fixed wing, single-engine plane went down around noon Sunday as the pilot was trying to land at Essex County Airport in Fairfield.

The 46-year-old pilot Tal Kienan, and his wife were the only people aboard the plane. Kienan told investigators that he had engine trouble and clipped a tree while attempting to land.

The name of Kienan’s wife was not released. Both she and her husband refused medical attention at the scene.

The airport and its runways were closed while authorities investigated the crash.
