MESQUITE, Texas (AP) - Police in suburban Dallas say officers shot a man after he led them on a chase and then sped toward them in his vehicle.

Lt. Brian Parrish said in a statement that police in Mesquite responded to a hotel after a woman reported being assaulted there Sunday evening.

According to the statement, officers arrived to find the suspect, a 30-year-old Dallas man, pulling away in a sedan. They attempted a traffic stop but the suspect led them on a chase that ended in a parking lot.

Parrish says the suspect’s car became blocked in. He says as officers approached on foot, the man put the vehicle into reverse and headed toward them. The officers fired at the man, who was struck at least once.

He was taken to a hospital in good condition.
