PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence man has been indicted in the 2015 beating death of another man.

Victor Cruz is charged with one count of second-degree murder. Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced the indictment last week.

Authorities say the 26-year-old Cruz punched Cranston resident Arthur Porter several times on March 7, 2015. The Providence Journal reports that police found Porter lying unconscious in the road at the intersection of Broad Street and Norwood Avenue in Cranston.

The 56-year-old Porter died from his injuries on December 19, 2015.

Authorities haven’t provided a motive for the beating.

Cruz was released on bail. He’s due back in court June 22.

The phone at the public defender’s office rang unanswered Sunday. Online public records don’t list a phone number for Cruz.
